MP3: Jahzel - "Faithful"
Chicago Rapper Speaks On His Love For Chi-Town & Promises To Remain Faithful to the City In New Single, Premiere via HotNewHipHop
Continuing to show love for his hometown of Chicago, Jahzel drops the latest single, "Faithful," from his forthcoming album, The Wake Up. As HotNewHipHop points out in their premiere of the track, the song features a sample of DJ Rogers' "Faithful to the End," which was popularly sampled by Kanye West on Common's "Faithful." An ode to the city of Chicago, Jahzel raps "Born and raised, I think back some days/ To that summer time watching Jordan play/ They were killin', Him, Phil, and Pippen/ Whole city loved them, had six parades." Painting the vision of his upbringing and how he'll never forget where he's from, Jahzel concludes saying "Always wit me doe, anywhere I go, always knew that I'd rap for you."
With The Wake Up expected to drop in early 2015 via The Black Key Collective, Jahzel has presented a strong campaign of videos and singles. Preceding the release of "Faithful," Jahzel dropped his second video single from the project, "Who Is You?!," which premiered via 2DopeBoyz. The video showcases the people who have always been there for Jahzel, as he is flanked by his crew and spits lines like "We are not the same, you do not retain/ My type of diesel, my type of loyal," evoking themes of loyalty similar to "Faithful." "Who Is You?!" followed the release of the album's third single, "John Stockton / Radio Raheem," which debuted on XXL. The track explores the struggles of growing up in Chicago and uses the metaphor of John Stockton to promote the message that Jahzel will "assist where he can."

Only a true Chicagoan can fully understand the city's hustle mentality - simultaneously holding down multiple jobs while going to school, taking care of our families, and being active in our communities, all while pursuing our dreams and goals. It's the Chicago way. Chicago-born musician Jahzel, eats, sleeps, and breaths that mentality: "We [Chicagoans} are hustlers in general; we get it done," he says proudly. "I am telling the story about Chicago that hasn't been told - that along with the bad things that are happening, there are plenty of positive things going on. This is the real story of Chicago and I think people can relate to it." Jahzel has always been a proud Chicagoan, and his most recent project, The Wake Up, is an ode to the city he holds dear.
