Chicago has more street festivals than anywhere else in the entire world! Okay, so I just made that up, but it sure does feel that way sometimes. Summer in the city would not be complete without attending one street festival... How is one supposed to choose when there are so many? I say, go for the food and music! Located in the heart of West Loop and one block away from the L, it is a no brainer as to why Taste of Randolph Street is ALWAYS my first choice.
Randolph street is no stranger to delicious food, but each restuarant's ability to turn their famous eats into street friendly options was heaven. Top restaurants like Alhambra Palace, bellyQ, City Winey, Cone Chicago, De Cero, Grange Hall Burger, La Luce, La Sardine, Pork Chop, Publican Quality Meats, Vicenzo’s, Vivo, and Wishbone brought their A game and made my mouth water with all their fantastic options. I am an ice cream gal at heart and Cone Chicago blew my mind away. Their Cookie Monster was to die for and turned the randomest parts of me blue. I have no idea how it got all over me, but it looked like I had been attacked by a Smurf, eaten a Smurf, or am going to be turned into a Smurf when I finished the scrumptous scoop.
In addition to the amazing food, Taste of Randolph also featured three unique stages. Names you may already know or if not will get to know include: the Kaiser Chiefs, Minus the Bear, Delta Spirit, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Dumpstaphunk, Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers, Quantic live band, The Revivalists, Cayucas, Royal Teeth, Kins, Chappo, Stagnant Pools, Lincoln Jesser, The Giving Tree Band, The Heard, The O’My’s, Ted Sirota’s Heavyweight Dub, Treetop Flyers, Sabers, Many Moons, Dog 1, Swamp Heat, Ryan Powers, The Lucky Dutch, Nick & the Ovorols, Falldown, and KSRA. The festival also included dancing in the streets with a special DJ Stage hosted by The Mid.
My favorite acts from the weekend included the Kaiser Chiefs, Minus the Bear, Delta Spirit, The Revivalists, The Giving Tree Band, The O'Mys, and MER. The crowd was polite and the artists all so talented.
If you are in the city next summer, hit up Taste of Randolph Street. I promise it will be completely worth your while!
