Philadelphia is the best place imaginable for a band called Kite Party, comprised of Andre, Tim, Pat, Russell and Justin, sounding like other bands, being young, to exist.
Songwriting is timeless. Instruments resonate with the strings of the human heart. Gathering together to experience the power and energy of a communal celebration of music is one of human kinds' most distinct and gratifying creations. 28 North abides by these simple creeds and by result is simply one of the best bands performing today. 28 North. A Real Rock Band.
Through the use of a four-track tape recorder in a small studio apartment, Aryk Crowder began creating a brand of music needing to be heard. Combining his past experiences, Aryk began to write lyrics hailing from the world of rhythm and blues - guitar riffs inspired by Jimi Hendrix and intricately molded vocals recalling the soulful warmth of Al Green. After months of perfecting his demo, Aryk began his quest for success in the heart of Chicago. The city’s local music scene eagerly opened its arms to its newest musician. Soon after arriving, he had booked live performances at some of the city’s most prominent venues, the rest was history, and a star was in the making.
It’s all about the singing. A common love for the pure, sweet, three-part harmonies of Bluegrass and mountain music is what brought Hannah, Rob and Eugenia together as Charming Axe. Rob Newhouse (guitar and vocals) possesses a talent and humor that infects the performance with fun. A veteran performer, having toured with Cyndi Lauper as well as his work with the Elvis brothers in the 80’s resulted in radio play and a cult following of fans.
River City Sound is composed of three members: Corey Johnson, Derek Spencer, and Sean Costin
Hi, I’m Brett Newski. I write heaps of songs and tour my face off in an effort to keep my A.D.D. under control. There are two people who refer to my style as, "American Folk Armageddon,” which happens to be the name of my new record. Other people tell me I sound like the Violent Femmes, Frank Turner, Jake Bugg and Ben Kweller.
America Religious is a 12-track collection of stories and poetry set against a gritty landscape of Roots-inspired Rock, Americana, Folk, Gospel, and Rhythm & Blues. Caroline Rose and partner Jer Coons cover all elements from production and recording to mixing and engineering, as well as playing nearly all the instruments themselves (lap steel, cello, organ, mandolin, and drums to name a few). The duo arranged and recorded America Religious at Coons’ Park Hill Studio in Burlington, Vermont.
To a remarkable degree, Shawn Maxwell has the urge—a quality fundamental to those who create improvised music on a nightly basis. In this way, it is not enough to simply create, but the need to innovate guides each note. His art lies in addressing the ordinary modalities of life in an extraordinary way, placing notes in their most complimentary places with precision and enthusiasm. Of course, there’s the way he plays. Maxwell’s style was built around swelling harmonic runs while painting complex melodies across an expansive canvass. Each harmony he creates is purposeful in form as well as function.
Born and raised in Uptown's Melpomene Projects, rapper Katey Red holds the distinction of being the first transgender MC to rise to prominence in New Orleans - and probably the world. Katey grew up twirling batons in the Walter L. Cohen High School marching band and rapping with her friends in school corridors and the courtyards of the Melpomene.
