Patrick Burke

Air Date: 10-07-13

Patrick Burke is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist with more than ten years of experience recording, performing, and teaching. He has been active in the Chicago area music scene for that time and has played with various other artists.

Patrick first found his passion for music on his parents’ old reed organ at the age of six. By the time he was 12, he began learning guitar, and by 19, he discovered the bass – first the electric, then the upright – which would become his instrumental specialty. It was through his upright study that he earned his Associate of Arts in Music from the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

His curiosity toward other instruments continued nevertheless, and he’s expanded his musical literacy over the years to include Dobro, lap steel guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and more. This versatility gives Patrick a solid sense of arrangement for songs and other compositions, both in the studio and for live performances.

Over the years, Patrick has played in a number of ensembles and as a backup musician to solo performers. He’s performed and recorded with eco folk-rockers The Giving Tree Band, acclaimed singer-songwriter Joe Pug, theatric and comedic singer Nellie McKay, and Chicago-area folk singer Curtis Evans. He’s also ventured into the world of musical theater, having held a two-year stint playing guitar for the improvised rock opera Baby Wants Candy, which has an ongoing run at Chicago’s acclaimed Apollo Theater.

As an instructor, Patrick teaches all the instruments mentioned above, and he designs individualized lesson plans to fit each students’ unique goals. He’s taught students of all ages and experience levels, and has more than five years’ experience teaching.
